Working out on a treadmill can be a total body workout. Even without crosstraining bars or dumbell weights, you can achieve a sleek physique. A 1 hour workout on a treadmill can go as follows:
Begin with a 10 minute warm up. Start at 3.0 MPH or under and increase .02 until you reach 4.0 and then take a 2-3 minute cool down at 2.2-3.0 MPH.
Next, you will do 8 sets and start walking at 3.6 MPH (pumping your arms inward toward your chest like a soldier marching). After 1 consecutive minute, work into a light job and jog on the balls of your feet (similar to a boxer jogging). Continue jogging for 30 seconds. After the 30 seconds, cool down at 2.2-3.0 MPH.
You will continue to do 7 more sets just like the one above but start at .04-.08 MPH higher each time you move to the next set. In addition, all electric treadmills allow for a .02 increase in MPH so you should be comfortable increasing at this level. Also, try mixing in a 15 second sprint at levels 5-8. This will really help burn more fat.
After you finish your 8th and final set, it is important for your central nervous system to cool down. Take the last 8-12 minutes for this.
